  • The Lanes Business Network AGM

The AGM of the Lanes Business Network was held at the Brighton & Hove Business Forum, Pavilion Buildings, Brighton on Thursday 27 July at 6 pm.

A summary of the meeting is provided below:

Election of Officers: The vacant post of Treasurer has been filled on a temporary basis by Denise Taylor who is also the Secretary for the LBN. Katherine Hope of Nua has been voted onto the committee.

BIDs Board Appointments: Three representatives from The Lanes have been appointed to the BID Board: Sue Addis (Donatello), Simon Leigh-Jones (English’s) and Anastasios Tsakonis (End of the Lanes Café).

Christmas Lights: Money raised through the successful Brighton BID will pay for a professional display of lights for the streets that are within the BID area (Market St, Meeting House Lane, pedestrianised part of East St). A separate meeting of LBN will be held to discuss lights for the streets in The Lanes that are not included.

New role for Chair, Stuart Wilkie: Stuart has been invited to join the Board of the Brighton & Hove Business Forum which is regarded as a very positive step in strengthening business links in the city.

Entrance to the Lanes from North Street: The LBN would like to see improvements to the signage, lighting and general appearance of the entrance to The Lanes via Meeting House Lane, from North Street.

British Retail Consortium (BRC): Rents The BRC is demanding that landlords stop the practice of charging retailers rents quarterly in advance (see www.brightonbusiness.co.uk, article entitled “Demand for shop rents to be paid monthly” dated 24 June). David Lepper MP has kept the LBN informed about the debate for change in payment of rents.

New Lanes Traders Welcome Pack: A new facility for “new starters” in The Lanes will be a Welcome Pack provided by the LBN, which will be launched at their summer party - planned for Tuesday 5 September at the First Light Gallery in Nile Street.
