This Masterclass is hosted by Cycle Demonstration Town Brighton and Hove City Council, and is designed to illustrate the best practice examples of how cycling can be promoted to employees.
During the day many of the pertinent issues that surround cycle promotion will be covered, such as health implications, cycle promotion to hard to reach communities, infrastructure design, and there will be case studies presented by large and small employers from the private and public sectors.
The modal share for cycling in the UK remains a long way behind major European Cities, but Cycling England hope to change this, through the Cycle Demonstration Town’s project which it has been announced will be extended to several new towns and one cycling city this year. We have invited Philip Darnton, Chairman of Cycling England, to talk about the current and future plans for cycle promotion.
We will also hear from the member for the Environment at Brighton and Hove City as to why the city sees cycling as important, and ACT TravelWise Director, Rose McArthur will chair the day and present her experience of promoting cycling through a Travel Plan.
Expert speakers will deal with some of the main issues that affect cycle promotion such as health, infrastructure design and cycle promotion to women, and minority communities.
Case studies will illustrate the variety of ways that cycle promotion can work on the ground, what has been tried, what worked, and what doesn’t work and why.
We will finish the day with a tour of the cycle freeways and shared space developments that will have been completed just a few weeks before the day of the conference.
There will also be opportunities to view a range of products and services available during a mini exhibition of some of the leading providers for the sector.
