‘Clean City, Clean Sea' - Plastic bag free week
Date: 1-8 March 2008 - Time: N/A
The theme will be “Clean City, Clean Sea”, encouraging all residents to take a bag out with them when they go shopping and not to accept a fee plastic bag at the till.
- In the UK alone, shoppers are issued with over 13 billion bags every year – that’s 220 per person.
- A person uses a plastic carrier bag on average for only 12 minutes.
- In the UK at least 200 million plastic bags end up as waste every year, many on our streets, parks and beaches - and in the sea.
- Nearly 90% of floating marine litter is plastic and about four-fifths of it comes from land, swept in by wind or washed in by rain off streets, down streams and rivers, and out to sea.
Play your part in eliminating the widespread use of plastic bags.
