The Food Debate

Date: 27 September 2006 - Time: 7.00pm

Join the debate. Is our food costing the earth? The Brighton & Hove Food Partnership is offering you the opportunity to discuss the future of your food with a panel of experts.

Questions will be welcomed from the floor on a variety of food related topics:

  • are supermarkets damaging our health by making processed foods and ‘unhealthy’ fat and sugar laden products so easily accessible?
  • Should schools and hospitals put health at the top of their agendas and serve organic foods?

Discuss the future of agriculture in the UK and debate the theory that we import all our food in a bid to protect our environment. Or maybe you think GM food is the answer or that organic farmers should receive subsidies to avoid them being undercut by less healthy alternatives.

Debate these points or raise your own concerns or ideas with a panel of food experts including Martin Caraher (Reader in food and health policy at City University in London) Richard D. North (writer and commentator) and Vicki Hird (senior food campaigner at Friends of the Earth). The Food Debate, part of the Brighton and Hove Food and Drink Festival, will be chaired by Barbara Myers from BBC Radio Four.

The Food Debate will be held at the Old Market, Upper Market Street, Hove on Wednesday, September 27th at 7.30pm. Tickets are priced at £5 (£2.50 concessions) to include refreshments available from 7.00pm.

Tickets will be available on the door but numbers are restricted. To guarantee your seat contact Old Market box office 01273 736222 or the Brighton & Hove Food Partnership 01273 766650.
